How Grafts Turn Into A Price
Clinics price a transplant by the graft. A graft is one natural group of 1 to 4 hairs, so 2,000 grafts is roughly 4,400 hairs.
Each group counts as one graft, so one price.
Hair Transplant Cost Calculator: What Your Estimate Includes
This hair transplant cost calculator builds a price from the four things clinics charge for: the number of grafts, the country, the technique and the level of clinic. Home Or Abroad and Rank Countries then add flights, hotel and meals, so you can see what a trip really costs.
Your estimate leaves out medication, blood tests, follow-up visits and any second session. Use it to plan a budget and compare offers. Only a clinic that has assessed your hair can give you a final price.
Quick Guide To Hair Transplant Costs
How Much Does A Hair Transplant Cost In 2026?
A hair transplant can cost anything from about $1,000 to more than $20,000. The country and the number of grafts explain most of that gap. At 2,000 grafts, the average surgery price is about $10,880 in the United States, $6,440 in the United Kingdom and $2,140 in Turkey.
The NHS gives a similar picture for Britain. Its hair transplant guide puts the UK cost at about £1,000 to £30,000, depending on how much hair you have lost, the procedure and the clinic. The treatment is cosmetic and is not available on the NHS, so patients pay for it themselves.

Published price data covers only some countries. Where we found none, the calculator labels the country as an estimate and uses a price band from nearby countries. Treat those figures as a rough guide and get a local quote.
You do not need to work this out by hand. Open the hair transplant cost calculator, choose Rank Countries, and every country is sorted by its total price from where you live.
Hair Transplant Cost Per Graft
Most clinics price surgery by the graft, so hair transplant cost per graft is the best number for comparing offers. A graft is a natural group of 1 to 4 hairs. That means a quote for 2,000 grafts covers roughly 4,400 hairs, not 2,000.
To compare two quotes, divide the total price by the number of grafts. A $3,200 quote for 2,400 grafts works out at $1.33 per graft. The Check A Quote tab does this for you and shows whether the price sits below, within or above the usual range for that country.
Hair Transplant Cost By Number Of Grafts
This table uses average FUE prices before any travel costs.
| Grafts | United States | United Kingdom | Turkey | India |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1,000 | $5,440 | $3,220 | $1,070 | $1,340 |
| 1,500 | $8,160 | $4,830 | $1,610 | $2,010 |
| 2,000 | $10,880 | $6,440 | $2,140 | $2,680 |
| 2,500 | $13,600 | $8,050 | $2,680 | $3,350 |
| 3,000 | $16,320 | $9,660 | $3,210 | $4,020 |
| 4,000 | $21,760 | $12,880 | $4,280 | $5,360 |
| 5,000 | $27,200 | $16,100 | $5,350 | $6,700 |
Some clinics, especially in Turkey, sell a fixed package and do not bill per graft. You can still divide the package price by the promised grafts to compare it fairly. If the clinic will not state a graft count in writing, you cannot make that comparison at all.

How Many Grafts Do You Need For A Hair Transplant?
Grafts have the biggest effect on your hair transplant cost after the country you choose. Surgeons often start with the Norwood scale, which describes male pattern hair loss in seven stages. Each stage has a typical graft range, as shown in this Norwood graft chart.
| Stage | Typical Grafts | What It Looks Like |
|---|---|---|
| Stage 2 | 500 to 1,200 | Temples only. This can be a normal maturing hairline, so many surgeons wait. |
| Stage 3 | 1,000 to 1,800 | Deep temple recession in an M shape. Transplant planning often starts here. |
| Stage 3V | 1,500 to 2,500 | Stage 3 plus crown thinning. The crown uses grafts quickly. |
| Stage 4 | 2,000 to 2,800 | Front and crown loss, still separated by a solid band of hair. |
| Stage 5 | 2,800 to 3,500 | The band between the front and crown is narrow and thinning. |
| Stage 6 | 4,000 to 5,000 | One bald zone from hairline to crown. Often split across two sessions. |
| Stage 7 | 5,000 to 6,000 | Only a horseshoe of hair remains. Donor hair may not cover the whole area. |
Hair Transplant Cost By Norwood Stage
These figures use the middle of each graft range at average FUE prices.
| Stage | Grafts Used | United States | United Kingdom | Turkey |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Stage 2 | 900 | $4,900 | $2,900 | $960 |
| Stage 3 | 1,400 | $7,620 | $4,510 | $1,500 |
| Stage 3V | 2,000 | $10,880 | $6,440 | $2,140 |
| Stage 4 | 2,400 | $13,060 | $7,730 | $2,570 |
| Stage 5 | 3,200 | $17,410 | $10,300 | $3,420 |
| Stage 6 | 4,500 | $24,480 | $14,490 | $4,820 |
| Stage 7 | 5,500 | $29,920 | $17,710 | $5,890 |
Why Your Graft Number May Differ
Thick or curly hair can give more coverage from fewer grafts. Fine hair, or dark hair against a light scalp, can need more. The density you want matters too, and the crown tends to use a lot of grafts for the coverage it gives.
Your donor area sets the limit. Grafts usually come from the back and sides of the head, and that supply is finite. At Stage 7 there may not be enough donor hair to cover everything, so surgeons usually put the front of the head first.
The Norwood scale applies to men. Female hair loss follows a different pattern, and the NHS says transplants mainly suit permanent, inherited baldness. Conditions such as alopecia areata are not usually suitable. A woman using this calculator should treat the graft count as a rough figure until a clinician has assessed her.
Hair Transplant Cost By Technique: FUE, FUT, DHI And Robotic
The calculator uses FUE as its base price, then applies a factor for other techniques. These factors are our planning assumptions, because clinics price techniques differently. PatientFi's US cost guide lists FUE at about $4 to $10 per graft and FUT at about $2 to $5.
FUE (Base Price)
Grafts are removed one at a time, leaving many tiny scars instead of one line. The donor area is usually shaved.
FUT (About 25% Less)
A strip of scalp is removed and divided into grafts. It often costs less per graft, but it leaves a scar at the back of the head.
DHI (About 15% More)
Grafts are placed with an implanter pen. In Turkey, many clinic packages charge the same for DHI and FUE.
Robotic FUE (About 35% More)
A robotic system assists with graft removal. Prices usually sit at the top of the local range.
The right technique depends on your hair, your donor area and how you wear your hair. FUT's scar is usually hidden unless hair is cut very short, so a lower price may suit someone who keeps some length. Ask each surgeon why they recommend a technique for you, and do not choose by price alone.
What Affects The Cost Of A Hair Transplant?
Location
Staff, rent and regulation costs differ by country and city. A clinic in a major city often charges more than one elsewhere in the same country.
Grafts
More grafts mean a longer procedure and a higher bill. Large cases may be split across two or more sessions.
Surgeon And Team
An experienced surgeon usually charges more. Find out who does each step, as this varies widely between clinics.
What Is Included
One clinic's price may cover medication and aftercare, while another bills them separately. Compare the full list, not just the headline figure.
This is why the calculator has a clinic level setting. Standard uses the average price for each country. Budget sits halfway between the lowest price and the average, and Premium sits halfway between the average and the highest price.
Hair Transplant Costs People Forget
The surgery fee is rarely the whole bill. Add these items to your hair transplant budget before you compare clinics.
- Consultation or assessment fees
- Blood tests before surgery
- Medication and aftercare products
- Time off work, often 1 to 2 weeks
- Follow-up visits
- A second session for large areas
- Ongoing treatment to protect existing hair
- Extra flights if you travelled for surgery
Can You Pay For A Hair Transplant Monthly?
Many clinics and lenders offer payment plans. The monthly figure in this calculator simply divides your estimate by the months you choose, so it leaves out interest and fees. Check the full cost of any finance before you sign. Most insurers treat pattern hair loss surgery as cosmetic, so plan to pay for it yourself unless your policy says otherwise.
Hair Transplant Abroad: Is It Worth The Cost?
Travelling can cut the price, but the saving depends on where you live. The examples below use 2,400 grafts of standard FUE, one traveller, four nights and our flight and hotel estimates.
| Trip | Surgery At Home | Surgery In Turkey | Flights And Stay | Estimated Saving |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| United States to Turkey | $13,060 | $2,570 | $960 | $9,530 |
| United Kingdom to Turkey | $7,730 | $2,570 | $630 | $4,530 |
| Canada to Turkey | $16,800 | $2,570 | $970 | $13,260 |
| Australia to Turkey | $13,200 | $2,570 | $1,380 | $9,250 |
| Germany to Turkey | $7,030 | $2,570 | $590 | $3,870 |
Many Turkish clinics sell fixed packages that may include your hotel and airport transfers. If yours does, choose Included in clinic package in the calculator so the hotel is not counted twice. Bookimed's Turkey price guide shows how these offers compare.
Questions To Ask Before Travelling
You will need to be near the clinic for the early stage of recovery, and the NHS advises being very careful with grafts for the first two weeks. Before you book, plan for what happens if a problem appears after you fly home. Find out who you can contact, whether a local doctor can see you, and who pays for any repair.
A low price is only part of the decision. The International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery has warned about unlicensed clinics that advertise low prices and guaranteed results. It reports problems such as scarring, unnatural hairlines, poor growth and a depleted donor area.
Hair Transplant Recovery And Results Timeline
A hair transplant is usually a one-day procedure under local anaesthetic, often with sedation. Your budget should allow for recovery time, and results take many months. This timeline is based on the NHS guide, and your clinic's own instructions come first.
| When | What Usually Happens |
|---|---|
| Days 2 to 5 | Bandages can usually come off, but you should not touch the grafts. |
| Day 6 | Gentle hand washing is usually allowed. |
| Days 10 to 14 | Non-dissolvable stitches are usually removed after FUT. |
| First month | You may be advised to limit exercise to reduce scarring. |
| After a few weeks | Transplanted hair often falls out. New hair regrows later. |
| Around 4 months | New hair usually begins to appear. |
| 10 to 18 months | Full results should be visible. |
A tight, achy or swollen scalp for a few days is common, along with temporary scabbing. You may need 1 to 2 weeks off work, which is a real cost if you do not have paid leave.
Hair Transplant Risks And How To Choose A Clinic
The NHS describes hair transplants as generally safe, with a small risk of bleeding, infection or an allergic reaction to the anaesthetic. The transplant can also fail, a noticeable scar can form, and surrounding hair may keep thinning. HealthLink BC adds that transplanted follicles can die and that the result can look patchy.
A cheap procedure can become expensive if it needs repair. Choosing the right clinic protects your money as well as your hair.
Questions Worth Asking Any Clinic
Who will assess my hair loss? Who will perform the surgery, and what are their qualifications? Will anyone unlicensed make incisions or remove grafts? How many transplants has the surgeon done, and how many had complications? What follow-up care is included if something goes wrong?
In England, the NHS advises checking that a clinic is registered with the Care Quality Commission and that the surgeon is on the General Medical Council register. In other countries, look for the equivalent medical regulator. Be careful with online rankings, as some clinics pay for their listing.
Options To Consider Before Paying For A Hair Transplant
Surgery is not the only way to treat hair loss, and it does not stop your remaining hair from thinning. The American Academy of Dermatology describes several other options.
Topical Minoxidil
FDA-approved for hair loss in men and women. Dermatologists often judge it over four to six months, and use must continue to keep results.
Finasteride
A prescription tablet that works best when started early. People who may become pregnant should not take or handle it.
Spironolactone
An oral option for women with female pattern hair loss, prescribed by a doctor.
Cosmetic Cover
Hair fibres, scalp covers and scalp micropigmentation can hide thinning without surgery.
Talk to a doctor or dermatologist before you start any medication. Many specialists also advise waiting until hair loss has stabilized before surgery, because a good plan needs to look natural as your hair changes.

Turkey, Mexico and India have the lowest average prices per graft in our data. The cheapest total for you also depends on your flights and hotel.
Is a hair transplant cheaper in Turkey after flights and hotel?
For most people in the United States, United Kingdom and Canada, yes. Use Home Or Abroad to add your own flight price and nights away.
Is FUT cheaper than FUE?
FUT usually costs less per graft than FUE, but it leaves a scar at the back of the head. Our calculator assumes FUT costs about 25% less, which is a planning assumption.
Does insurance cover a hair transplant?
Most insurers treat hair transplants for pattern hair loss as cosmetic, so plan to pay yourself. Check your own policy to be sure.
Can I get a hair transplant on the NHS?
No. The NHS classes a hair transplant as cosmetic surgery, so it is not available on the NHS.
How long does it take to see hair transplant results?
The NHS says new hair usually starts to appear at around 4 months, and full results should be visible at 10 to 18 months.
Is a hair transplant permanent?
Transplanted hair is taken from areas less prone to pattern hair loss, but a transplant can fail and the hair around it may keep thinning. Ask your surgeon how likely this is in your case.
Is this hair transplant cost calculator a clinic quote?
No. It gives a planning estimate in US dollars. A clinic must assess your hair before it can confirm your graft count and final price.
